Summertime Shade

This one is a bit later in the year for the seven singing birds!

Springtime Song

I had done this years ago and decided to do it again, but with a variation. This is a Springtime song.

Daisies

These three daisies are framed together in one tall frame. They look great together. Each small painting is only 5.5" x 7.5" but make a lovely framed piece at 11" x 30".

I took it to the Helena May bazaar and it had lots of comments from the visitors.

Caysie in the garden....

I don't really have a garden, just a few potted plants sitting out on the balcony. Caysie has found some interest out there. She likes to chew on the few blades of grass she can find in the pots. We live so high up, it's hard to believe that grass is growing up here! I guess between the wind and the birds, grass grows everywhere!

It took awhile to finally capture a cute photo of her. She rarely sits still except when she's sleeping. Every time I go for the camera, she moves. That rascal!

Magnolia on green

Here's another of the series of flowers on the green paper. It is hanging in my living room now along side a branch of plum blossoms on green. They are both on scrolls to give them that added Asian touch!

White Mums

This one I had put on a scroll, which makes it a bit harder to photograph. I had a good play with the background on this one. It is layer upon layer of color.

Sunflower on the edge

My instructor did not like this one. She really wanted me to center the flower on the page. I enjoyed playing with a portion of it. I plan on making a series of this one. Maybe I will play with size and a variety of portions.
The framer had a good time with this one. I wasn't really convinced with the way he wanted to frame it but I went ahead with his choice. It's growing on me! I hope you enjoy it!

Bright Bloom

I thought I would try my hand on the purple paper I like so much. I like how the colors seem so intense.

In Bloom

My plum blossoms seem to be eveybodies favorites! I always think of my Grandmother when I paint tree limbs. I remember her painting crooked limbs on Chinese boxes.

Magnolias

This pair is of magnolias. The painting on the left is on card with gold fleck, the other is on the smooth cream card. I enjoy playing with color and the shape of stems. One small change can change everything.

Cycles

These two small paintings are representing 2 of the phases of the lotus life cycle. They are both on 3" x 3" cards.

Lotus Bloom

This Lotus has a lustrous background. I bought some pearlized paint and thought it matched the pink of the bloom. Sometimes the background is the hardest part to paint. These cards are 4" x 6" each.

Lotus Bud

This one is another of the "mosaic style" paintings I have been doing. They are quick to paint, so I paint them while other paintings are drying. I like how the bud turned out, and the shading of the upper leaf.

Tulip cards

This is a mosaic of tulips. I need to head out to the chop man and have a new chop made for this one. The bud on the left does have a stem, but the scanner just wouldn't pick it up, it is so faint. Each of these cards is only 3 inches square, so this is quite small. After I chop the painting, I think it will look good in a "shadow box" style frame.

Purple Iris on a gold card

I decided to cover several gold cards with a light wash of blue. Then I dried them with my blow dryer. That created an interesting effect on the cards which created an interesting background and toned down the intense gold color.

These two photos are of the same card, but I thought it might be fun to show how it looks framed in a pre-made Chinese frame I bought from the art shop down in Central. There really isn't any need to run down to the framer's when I can use these cute little frames. Cards are approx. 5" x 5.5"

Purple Iris on a cream card

Staying with the Iris theme, this card has a different texture so when I paint on it, the brush seems to glide across the paper. The gold paper, which is rougher, it seems I really have to push the brush to lay down the paint. This little one is only chopped, I really couldn't find a good spot to sign it. It's all about balance.

Under the Lotus Leaf

This is another one of the gold cards with a light wash of blue. The paint just sort of sits on the gold paper, so it takes a while to dry.

Two crane paintings

These two I worked on simultaneously. While one dried, I worked on the other, then switched back so the second one could dry. There are many layers of paint on these two. They were fun to paint. It's fun to see how different two similar paintings can be.

Flowers

These little paintings are done on long cards and then placed into tall frames I purchased at the art shop. These are only a few of the flowers I have painted on the cards. They are good fun, but there is no room for any mistakes!

Japanese Temple

I painted this one a few years ago and gave it to my sister. This is a famous temple in Japan, surrounded by cherry blossoms.

Purple Iris

I love these flowers. I used to have some in my garden back home. I would throw the bulbs out into the yard and plant them wherever they landed! When spring came, they would brighten up even the darkest corner of the yard!

A pair of Cranes

This is my 2006 Christmas card. It's a closer look at the Japanese crane. Enjoy!

Cyclamen

These were fun to paint. I really had to debate whether or not to darken the background, since I really liked the contrast.

This is the last of the series of cards. And again, it waits for me to pick it up from the framer. I hope they all turn out wonderful!

13 amazing paintings are waiting at the framers! I just hope it stops raining long enough for me to put them all in a taxi without getting soaked!

Orchid

Here is the third in the series of four. This one is very much like the orchid series I painted for The Helena May. The biggest difference is size. The paintings in this series are about 12" x 12", whereas the ones hanging in The HM are approx. 36" x 36". Wow, painting flowers that large was a challenge! Not to mention, I really feared tearing the paper trying to handle the artwork while it was soaking wet.

Stargazer Lilies

I love these flowers! They are one of my favorites! This paiting is another in the series of paintings put on cards. The original waits for pick up at the frame shop in Jordan.

The green seems a bit brighter than the actual paper, but I think you get the idea.

Plum blossom on green paper

I so enjoyed painting on this green paper with gold flecks. I liked it so much, I went back to the art shop and bought up all they had!
I think the thin, tissue-like paper is actually supposed to be used for calligraphy, but I think the pink blossoms really stand out on the green. I did several floral series on this paper. One large set of three is hanging in The Helena May, one small set is on scrolls and another is currently at the framers, waiting to be picked up!
I so enjoyed this set, that I have made them into 5 x 5 cards. I have to admit, I think they look fabulous!
